Comparison of soil phosphorus extraction methods regarding their suitability for organic farming systems

چکیده
Abstract Background Organic farmers frequently report sufficient yield levels despite low or even very soil phosphorous (P) contents questioning the applicability of widely used laboratory methods for P testing organic farming. Aims The aim this study was to compare validity a broad range different extraction on soils under management from South West Germany and test correlation measured concentration with plant offtake. Methods Twenty‐two samples eight farms were extracted solutions: (1) water, (2) CAL, (3) Olsen, (4) Mehlich 3, (5) Bray P1, (6) P2, (7) NaOH+Na 2 EDTA, (8) total P. results then correlated above ground Results Spearman's rank coefficient ( r s ) correlations between extractable (Water‐P, CAL‐P, Olsen‐P [+active charcoal {+AC}]) determined ICP‐OES strong (0.94, 0.90, 0.93, respectively). Among tested methods, showed CAL‐P as detected by = 0.90) colorimetry 0.91). comparison data provided analyzed during research discrepancies results. Conclusions indicate that CAL method can be in farming (P org ). Furthermore, it is recommended take analyses regularly interpret changes long‐term instead interpreting individual samples.

Extraction of soil organic phosphorus.
Organic phosphorus is an important component of soil biogeochemical cycles, but must be extracted from soil prior to analysis. Here we critically review the extraction of soil organic phosphorus, including procedures for quantification, speciation, and assessment of biological availability. Quantitative extraction conventionally requires strong acids and bases, which inevitably alter chemical s...

Managing soil fertility in organic farming systems
12 Complex relationships exist between different components of the organic farm and 13 the quantity and quality of the end products depend on the functioning of the whole 14 system. As such, it is very difficult to isolate soil fertility from production and 15 environmental aspects of the system. Crop rotation is the central tool that integrates 16 the maintenance and development of soil fertil...
متن کاملSoil fertility and biodiversity in organic farming.
An understanding of agroecosystems is key to determining effective farming systems. Here we report results from a 21-year study of agronomic and ecological performance of biodynamic, bioorganic, and conventional farming systems in Central Europe. We found crop yields to be 20% lower in the organic systems, although input of fertilizer and energy was reduced by 34 to 53% and pesticide input by 9...
متن کاملSoil suppressiveness and functional diversity of the soil microflora in organic farming systems
Arable fields of 10 organic farms from different locations within the Netherlands were sampled in four subsequent years. The soil samples were analysed for disease suppressiveness against Rhizoctonia solani, Streptomyces scabies and Verticillium dahliae. Furthermore, a variety of microbial characteristics and chemical and physical soil properties were assessed. All these characteristics and dif...
